amoxicillin clavulanate suspension (augmentin) dosage

The suspensions are sold with 5 mL spoons.

In the 400/57 form, there are 400 mgrs amox. and 57 mgrs  clavulanate in a 5 mL spoon.
In the 200/28 form, there are 200 mgrs amox. and 28 mgrs  clavulanate in a 5 mL spoon.

The daily dosage of amox+cla. for a child:

In minor infections ............   25-45 mg/kg amox. daily
In major infections .............  45-70 mg/kg amox.  daily

So, if a child is 5 kgs, and if we want to give the suspension from approx. 40 mg/kg, the daily dose of amox. is 200mgr, and that would be half a spoon of 5ml at the 200/28 form.


if a child is 10 kgs, and if we want to give the suspension from approx. 40 mg/kg, the daily dose of amox. is 400mgr, and that would be  a spoon of 5ml at the 200/28 form.

if a child is 20 kgs, and if we want to give the suspension from approx. 40 mg/kg, the daily dose of amox. is 800mgr, and that would be  a spoon of 5ml at the 400/57 form.
